As Career and Technical Education Month continues, the Simpson County School District is highlighting the Metal Fabrication pathway at the Simpson County Technical Center.

Students in Metal Fabrication

The Metal Fabrication program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the metalworking industry or to continue their studies in a post secondary metals program, including welding or machine tool operation.

Students receive classroom instruction in safety, basic shop mechanics, blueprint reading, machine tool theory, and related welding. In the lab, students gain hands-on experience operating industry equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and shapers, while also learning proper maintenance and care of machinery.

The machining units in the curriculum align with certification standards established by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Students who successfully complete the program have the opportunity to earn national certification credentials through NCCER and the National Institute for Metalworking skills (NIMS).
